This week I’m back with a guide to everyone’s favorite tech turtle – Donatello! Donnie won the last poll by a landslide, which wasn’t too hard I suppose, considering there were only four votes and three were his.
Strike A Pose!
The main thing that sets Donnie apart from his brothers is his unique ability to be a complete troll when it comes to countering enemy attacks. This purple bandanna wearing bad ass is the king of AoE countering.
As you can see in the screen shot, after a counter, all you need to do is wait for Donnie’s staff to shimmer and he’ll unleash a big spanking with it. On occasion, you’ll see him poke at the enemy’s toes, chasing them backwards. This will lead Donnie into another stance that lets his staff glow again for a big smack.
Sometimes, you’ll also get huge 360 swings with it. Either way, Donnie packs more of a punch that you might expect.
Swing, Battah, Battah, Battah, Battah, Swing!
Like his brothers, Donatello has four special moves that are unique to him.
The first one highlighted will cause Donnie to flip over an enemy, getting his staff under their chin, and flip them over him, slamming them into the ground. I dunno about you, but I looks painful.
The second highlighted skill is one of Donnie’s 360CW skills.
As you can see, when maxed, it does humongous amounts of damage.
The alternative 180CW skill is the Homerun. It’s pretty self explanatory.
This one has the ability to hit, and knockdown, multiple enemies within range.
Donnie’s final special is the Staff Cyclone. Like Raph’s Sai Drill that you might remember from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project, this is making a come back too!
I guess I don’t need to do much explaining on this one. Donnie spins around with his staff out, smacking the crap out of anyone dumb enough to be within range. Ever been smacked with a dowel rod? I imagine it’s like that, only a hundred times worse because it’s a 200lb turtle swinging a giant piece of wood.
Your Pain Sustains Me
Donnie has the potential to be a survival monster with Line ‘Em Up.
As you can see, the ability grants him health and/or Special Meter depending on the number of enemies knocked down.
Three enemies grants him a single bar of Special Meter, where five will grant him 20 health. Not too bad when you’re surrounded by 10 baddies and knock them all down!
I covered most of this in the earlier section. Donnie has a penchant for style and he loves to show it.
This is a great one to have when you’re in the middle of a long combo and toss out a taunt. If you manage to get Donnie with the staff across his shoulders, hanging his hands over it, you’ll get a very nice, and effective, whirlwind attack.
Donnie’s 63|\|1u$ tree, silly name and all, is ok at best, I’d say.
One of the best parts of it is the highlighted skill that grants three points for you to use however you like in Donnie’s workshop! This means you can get the Gravity Gauntlet, or any other special weapon, for free! That’s three less runs through story mode to take out three bosses to earn the points. This leaves you more time for the important stuff, like Survival and Challenge maps.
Ok, let’s be honest, the first level of this isn’t something you’ll probably see used often, if ever. It’s the Unlimited Special that makes this one worth your points!
Unlimited 360 spins? Hell. Yes. That means invincibility frames you can chew on to, hopefully, knock down five guys and regain the 20 health you might need in a dire situation!
Hackster is definitely deserving of your points if you plan to run the story mode regularly, mostly because the last few levels get very, very happy about the hacking mini-game. It’s not a bad mini-game, but most of the time I’d rather skip it and get back to bashing things on the head.
Yet another skill that gains extra exp per whatever requirement is needed. I didn’t get to test it out when I needed the exp, but I imagine you’d get the bonus if you combined this one with Hackster.
Assuming Direct Control
Well, that wraps up the guide for Donnie. I know, it wasn’t a very long or in-depth guide, but they can’t all be Raphael!
The thing you’ll need to remember most when running Donatello is to just let the enemies come to you and go with the ebb and flow of battle. Donnie’s a counter GOD and should be played at such. Wait for them to come to you, and spank their puny asses for daring to attack you!
That’s all from me for now.
You folks have fun, take care, and I’ll see you next time.
As a bonus, here are some funnies Donnie made while I was playing.
Yep, that’s Donnie stuck in the classic “T Pose” with his staff chilling on the side!
I’ll see you guys on Friday with the next Halloween review!
